Speech for Indiana’s Attorney General
On July 2021, I attended a packed event held by Indiana’s Attorney General and his office. This was the transcript of my speech that received a standing ovation.
My name is Jennifer McWilliams. I stand here today to not only advocate for parental rights but especially for the future of the innocent children who are at the center of this issue. In 2019 I was working as a Title I Reading Intervention teacher at Frankton Elementary here in Indiana. During that time our education system was undergoing a transformation that will ultimately serve as the dismantling of America as we know it if something is not done. That year my school, like many, was in the early stages of implementing a Social Emotional Learning program, or SEL. I became extremely concerned with what was happening because SEL focuses on the children’s values, morals & worldview instead of academic success. These programs influence the children with constant propaganda, identity politics and role playing. SEL is designed to shift the role of the parent to the government.
As a concerned teacher, mother and proud American I felt it was my duty to express my concerns about the dangers of this program. In February of last year (2020), I posted an article to Facebook on my own personal time with accurate concerns about the SEL program at my school and 4 days later my administration fired me for it. I now have a federal first amendment case to defend my freedom of speech and I want to encourage other teachers to use their freedom of speech and speak out as well.
Social Emotional Learning uses innocuous language to disguise the real motive which is shifting the perspective of this generation of children to view America and all of our systems through a critical race theory (CRT) viewpoint. Children are NOT being taught what Critical Race Theory is, they are being psychologically manipulated with CRT ideology through the SEL programs. SEL uses a CRT framework that requires children to understand how their own race and other identities fit into a hierarchy of oppressed and oppressors. They accomplish this with the SEL competencies (or skills) labeled as “self-awareness” and “self-management”. The next stage of the CRT framework is “responsible decision making” and this is the competency that requires children to make decisions based on their personal role in what they claim is systemic racism. Finally, children move to the last competency stages labeled “relationship skills” and “social awareness” where they are influenced to adopt the radical ideology and work to advocate for it within their communities.
So, in other words, our education system is training our children to be their own demise and dismantle the only country in the world that was founded on liberty and to prevent tyranny. This is truly the civil rights issue of our time and it is vital that we stand up for the truth and fight for the future of our children and America.
